Why is it so important to go to church? Matthew 6:6 tells us,
"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." What Jesus meant, in my opinion, was to stress that, first of all, GOD hears our prayers individually and praying alone comes from the heart. Secondly, I believe Jesus was warning us to not pray in public for the sake of others seeing us pray. Do not use the act of praying to elevate our Christian image in the eyes of others. Praying is our chance to talk to our our FATHER and not to display our righteousness.

So the question arises again, why should we go to church? Jesus also said in Matthew 18:19, "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven." When joined together in Christian unity, our voice to GOD elevates. Church provides a gathering of Christians, all voicing praise for the LORD in unison, which is pleasing to our CREATOR. GOD wants us to have fellowship with one another so we can all feed off each other and be influenced by other's faith, thus increasing our own. GOD wants our gatherings to grow and at some point, HE will then gather us all up to HIM in glorious reconciliation. These gatherings combines our spiritual strength in prayer.

Many have become confused about the true meaning of church. I believe that it has little to do with any physical structure. One may argue that the church is the LORD's house but GOD owns everything. The whole universe and all that it contains is HIS house so HE needs no special building to reside in. Church is a congregation of believers all gathered together to glorify our LORD in unity and give thanks to Jesus for His undying love and sacrifice. Church, which is the body with Christ as the head, is spiritual and is important for us to attend these gatherings for our spiritual growth.
