1 Peter 5:1-3

So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: 2 shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; 3 not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.

Peter, an eye witness to Christ's time on earth, gives us the perfect guidlines for being leaders. Not just in a Christian context but in any situation. Too many times we see our leaders adopt a, "Do what I say and not what I do." attitude, when they should be using a "Practice what I preach." stance. Undoubtedly people will follow your leadership with more confidence if you lead by example.

Peter also to use good judgement and not to be compelled to go against your own better judgement. Lead willingly, not reluctantly and do not abuse leadership for shameful gain. Lead with passion but be careful not to belittle those you lead. If we lead according to these guidlines, we are assured of loyal followers and we can take a step closer to righteousness.
