Psalm 34:11-14

(11) Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. (12) Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, (13) keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies. (14) Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

I've always thought that the phrase "Fear the LORD" was ominous and didn't really reflect what was meant. I believe respect would be better than fear. When we love someone, we want to do whatever we can good for them and we certainly respect them. We do our best to listen to them and try our best to please them. I believe this is what is meant by fear the LORD and when we prespect the LORD, we grow closer to HIM and develop a more inimate relationship and that leads to many "good days" as David states.

Hiw do we please GOD? David puts it pretty straight forward, do good and not evil. Much evil stems plainly from what comes out of our mouths. Speak well of other. Do not slander, gossip or lie and stay away from conflict. Pursue peace and gentleness. Be forgiving and accepting as that is GOD's way. Do so and you respect the LORD and HE will respond.
