Mark 8:36

“What do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your soul?”

These days when we say someone is blessed, we usually are referring to those who have much material wealth. Many passages in the Bible tells us quite the opposite. 1 Tomothy 6:10 for examples says, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs." Jesus also told the disciples that, "it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of god" (Matthew 19:24).

This doesn't mean that its a sin to be rich. In fact for those who believe and are blessed with material wealth, they have indeed received this blessing from GOD but as far as GOD's blessings go, material wealth can be considered a lesser blessing. Its when we get consumed by the lesser blessings and place them above the greater blessings such as love, family, eternal life and GOD's pressence, that we distance ourselves from GOD.

This life and this world has fooled us into placing such great value on the lesser blessings, the things that don't last. Sure, its great to have money and comfort but not at the cost of what is truly important, our spiritual beings. Place GOD's pressence and your relationship with HIM above all else and the lesser blessings will rightly lose a lot of their appeal.
