The first books of the Bible deal mainly with more of a historian's view of the plight of the Israelites and their relationship with our CREATOR. The next section of the Holy Book includes five books, which are referred to as the "Wisdom Books" and they include Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes  and The Song of Songs or The Song of Solomon. From a literary standpoint, the Wisdom Books are the most beautifully written in the Bible and they are true to their namesake, as they contain a wealth of wisdom.

The book of Job deals with the suffering of a saint and how he calls out to GOD and teaches us of GOD's sovereignty. The book of Psalms is a collection of beautifully written prayers believed to be penned by King David and it contains one of my favorite prayers in Psalms 21:1-6, "The LORD is my shepherd...". A prayer that has often comforted me in fearful times. The fifth book, Song of Songs, is written in lyrical form and tells of a relationship of love between a man and woman.

The middle two books, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, for me, contain so much vital wisdom. Proverbs is full of lessons written in hundreds of short pieces of insight and through the writings, we learn of the distinct difference between wisdom and foolishness. Written by Solomon, a man whom the LORD granted supreme wisdom, the essence of the messages are that true wisdom begins with GOD as he writes in Proverbs 1:7, "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and knowledge." Simply put, one is a fool of he doesn't believe in GOD.

Ecclesiastes, also written by Solomon who calls himself the preacher in this book, wisely points out how futile our worldly pursuits are. They do not stem from anything other than our human vanity and in the end, seeking them is as intangible as "striving after the wind".
