Ephesians 6:18

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

No doubt prayer is an important part of being a Christian. Through prayer, we learn to communicate with GOD thus getting to know HIM better. That and only that is the goal of being a believer.

From childhood till adult maturity, our prayer goes through phases. As children, we are taught to pray and in our immaturity, we pray for things we want. This is the lowest form of prayer, which is petition pyare and to be honest, rarely gets answered.

As we grtow older we learn to thanks giving prayers. I.e. "praying before meals we give thanks to the LORD for providing. From there we go to intercession prayers where we ask for blessing for others. We start to divert our petition ing for ourselves and ask for GOD to intercede to help others. Our spiritual maturity begins to take shape as we divert attention from ourselves but these first three stages in spiritual growth through prayer are only eading us to the true purpose of prayer.

When we finally grow up spiritually, we learn that the true goal of prayer is to get to know our FATHER better. Sure we can continue to pray for things we want and to give thanks as well as ask for others but the true Christian seeks to know GOD better and fully understands that can only be made possible through Jesus Christ. Through His name, we can gain audience with our MAKER.
