Where did the name "Jesus" come from? Technically the  name "Jesus" comes from the early Latin Greek word "lesous" but its not the name that He was known by in His time on earth.

The Bible places great importance in knowing the true name of GOD. For instance In John 2:23 it says, “Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover, the feast days, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.” At the time of it's writing, GOD's true name in Hebrew was YAHWEH. HE is called YAHWEH since the book of Genesis in the Old testament.

When Jesus came, His own people called Him YAHWEH-YASHA. The suffix "yasha" in Hebrew means to free, save, deliver, help, defend, bring (having) salvation, saviour, to get victory. So Jesus' name actually means GOD or the LORD SAVIOR. No other person, to the best of my knowledge, used the name YAHWEH as it would have been considered  as blasphemy back then but those who believed in His name called Him GOD the Savior.

In Jeremiah 23:5-6, YAHWEH says that He is going to raise unto David a righteous branch and a king (Christ) and that the name of the Messiah would be called YAHWEH OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jesus' name was established long before He came and He alone would bear the name of GOD.

The fact is Jesus and GOD are one and the same so He had to bear the Name of our LORD. If He didn't then we would have to call upon two names. The Bible places great importance on the name of GOd and rightly so as it helps our understanding of the relationship and in fact, sameness of GOD the FATHER and GOD the SAVIOR.
