Matthew 5:4

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."

Our faith in Jesus provides instant comfort in times of grief. We mourn over the loss of a loved one and although we will miss them, we can find comfort in the knowledge that they have moved on to be with GOD.

We feel grief when our sins causes us to feel miserable. There are two kinds of grief. Worldy grief and GODly grief. Worldly grief causes the unbeliever to feel ashamed or hurt because they look bad in other's eyes and it messed up their lives. Worldy grief doesn't cause them to repent and turn to GOD.

For Christians, GIDly grief is remorse because our sins have offended GOD and we repent and ask HIM for forgiveness. GOD promised us forgiveness so we are instantly comforted that it is so. GODly sorrow over sins makes us want to change, not to better our lives or escape shame but so we stop hurting GOD. This kind of sorrow is a blessing as we repent and are assured of GOD's forgiveness.
