Ephesians 2:1-3

(1) And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, (2) in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, (3) among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

My stepfather was a wonderfaul man and GOD smiled on him and gave him success in business. As a successful businessman, he was constantly approached by people seeking investment. Many of these people were charlatans and my stepdad had a pretty good nose for whiffing out the bad ones. He used to refer to their bogus proposals as "air pie". "Someone is trying to sell me an air pie.", he used to say, which made us laugh (he had a great sense of humor). He used his self coined phrase of air pie to illustrate something that was of no substance, just hot air or a deception.

Satan, who has dominion over our fallen world, is known as the prince of the power of air. He is lord over all deception and he is constantly at work, trying to lead us astray with his air pie. Through satan, it is established in our society that we should seek material gains at all cost and forsake the virtues that GOD intended for us. We lie, cheat, steal and in some cases even murder in order to obtain worldly possessions but they are a lie. Even though they are tangible to our physical being, in the end, they have to be left behind when we depart this world, thus making them temporary and perishable.

When we enter into a life of seving GOD, we enter into the possibility of eternity. When one considers that, then all the gains, as physically tangible as they may seem, suddenly diminish in importance. They don't matter anymore and are simply the result of deceptions that the prince of the power of air is constantly trying to feed us. Air pie has no taste and cannot fill our spiritual bellies. Only a life filled with the truth we are gifted to receive from GOD through our Lord Jesus Christ that can satisfy our emptiness.
