Romans 13:8-10

Owe no one anything except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, you shall not kill, you shall not steal, you shall not covet," and any other commandment, are summed up in this sentence, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.

GOD is supreme, sovereign, eternal. He has no egotistical need to control us so why give us the law? What is the purpose of a list of rules that, if we break them, we suffer the ultimate punishment? Furthermore, after Jesus' great sacrifice, have we been released from the law as Paul declares in Romans 6:14,"You are no longer under law but under grace,"

To answer these questions, you have to examine the law from a different perspective than a legalism point of view. Whewn we think of laws, we are conditioned to put them in the context of legality. GOD did not give us the law so that we may, through following or breaking the law, gain or lose HIS favor through legally abiding by it.

Many seem to miss the whole point of the law and what it means to GOD. GOD didn't give us the law for HIS satisfaction. HE gave us the law for our own wellbeing. If you look at the law, it is all about love one another. If we love someone, we wouldn't steal, lie to, kill, commit adutery against them. We would naturally uphold the commandments from our hearts.

GOD's intention for us is to love each other from the heart. The commandments were given to us as a guidline for loving one another for if we uphold them from our hearts, we practice true love and that is what pleases GOD!
