John 2:18-20

18 So the Jews said to him, "What sign do you show us for doing these things?" 19 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." 20 The Jews then said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?"

What the Jews didn't inderstand was that Jesus was not referring to the temple structure, which He could destroy and rebuild in an instant if He wanted to. Jesus, instead, was referring to His body as the temple, which was to be destroyed by His own people, then three days later resurrected.

The Bible refers to our bodies as our temple as we learn in 1 Corinthians 6:19, "Your body is the temple of God. Be careful where it goes. Be careful what it does. Be careful what it ponders. Be careful how it reacts. The Holy Spirit lives within you." GOD dwells everywhere but HE likes it best to live within us. When GOD is in our hearts, our temples are strong and cannot be destroyed for our temples become pure in spirit. Sure the body is relatively easy to destroy but the spirit is indestructable if we commit it to faith in GOD.

Although the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Cjrist was necessary for us to be saved, it still saddens me to know that the whole basis by which He was condemned to death was the Jews misundertanding His meaning about the temple. They had ears that didn't hear.
