"Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God" (II Corinthians 7:1)

GOD is holy therefore HE wants us to be holy as well. "But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;" (1 Peter 1:15). Becoming a holy person, for me, means the inclusion of all good and Godly virtues. A holy person is kind, honest, gentile, generous, righteous and possesses all other characteristics of Godliness. Being holy means that not only are you outwardly exuding good but internally in thought and spirit, you are cleansed of evil. When Paul writes of flesh and spirit, he means in body and mind.

By comparison, it is relatively easy to display righteousness through deeds but righteous deeds must be accomanied by the right motives. Displaying the virtues of holiness brings our actions closer to what GOD wants but when we, in our hearts, can cleanse our thoughts, then we move closer to holiness and take giant step towards fellowship with our FATHER in heaven.
