The New Jerusalem will be a wondrous place where our spiritual selves will enjoy the bliss of everlasting fellowship with GOD and Jesus Christ. As Christians, this is what we know and believe with all our hearts and souls. For those who don't believe and choose to live their lives selfishly, GOD has another place in store for them. Now this is not my favorite subject but I still felt the need to research it for my own understanding and learned much from this Site, www.cupofwrath.com/risen-dust/29-lake-fire.php. The author explains the Scriptures in regards to the difference between hell and the lake of fire (Gehenna) mentioned throughout the Bible. When a wicked person dies, he sent to a holding tank basically, which is hell or hades where he awaits judgement day at the end of Jesus thousand year reign on earth. Once he is resurrected and judged to be unworthy, he will be cast into the lake of fire where he will be consumed for eternity. There is much debate as to whether a sinner will suffer for an eternity or whether he will be annihilated and cease to exist. Most evidence supports the later. The eternal damnation is used often as a scare tactic, which is not the Christian way in my opinion. I choose to seek GOD, not by way of fear but by way of love.

Being cast into Gahenna sounds like a excruciating experience but its not what drives my faith. For that matter, neither does eternity in the New Jerusalem. Sure, I desire to meet GOD and Jesus face to face but while I live in the present, the satisfaction of helping others, seeing there day go a bit better due something I've done is my motivation. When judgement day comes and my name is called to enter into heaven, then I will know that my works have been good. That will be so satisfying. Whatever happens after that is a bonus. The lake of fire or The New Jerusalem matter little to me. What I do right now to serve GOD is what is the important thing in my life. Its all about GOD and Jesus and now.
