James 3:4-5

4 Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.

There's no denying that the tongue, one of the smallest parts of our bodies, can cause the most damage to ourselves as well as others. By way of mouth, we lie, cheat, slander, gossip, abuse, brag, bully and more. James says it best in his epistle.

7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. (James  3:7-8)

Learning to control what we say is next to impossible if, fist, don't change what's in our hearts for our voices are near echos of what we feel. The key to staying our tongues is to have a change of heart. If we can follow Jesus' example and become kind and gentle hearted, then verbal reflections of our hearts will become positive and uplifting instead of full of destruction and wickedness.
