Genesis 19:14

(14) So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters. He said, "Hurry and get out of this place, because the LORD is about to destroy the city!" But his sons-in-law thought he was joking. 

By it's description, Sodom and Gomorrah don't sound all that different to how far our society has fallen these days. It wouldn't be too surprising if Jesus were to come pretty soon. Of course, we can't determine the time as only GOD knows but we must always remain spiritually prepared.

Preparation is based on faith. If we have faith then we can stay alert to His coming and be ready to receive Him when He does. Lot's sons-in-law lacked faith and were too trapped up in their worldly surroundings to follow Lot to safety. The question we need to ask ourselves is, Are we prepared to leave it all behind through faith? It takes faith and belief to renounce our worldly settings for they represent physical comfort. To be ready, spiritual maturity must trump physical comfort and we must always remain ready to leave it all behind and follow Christ to safety.
