Luke 16:13
"No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."
Money causes many people to do evil and desperate things. Most people would have no problem lying to get it. Some will steal and other would even kill to get more of it. Unfortunately, money is also a necessary component of a functioning society and the economics needed to sustain a productive population. The world has grown in numbers to a point where direct barter for goods would be total chaos.
We all need money for food, clothing, housing, education, etc. I stress over money more than ever after my daughter's birth. I want so badly to provide her with everything she needs and most things she wants. It's not evil to want enough money to obtain the necesities in life but what is essential is what one will do for it. Honest work or trade is fair but so many love money so much that they will go to great and evil lengths to get more than what they need.
I've never been what one could call rich by western standards so I'm not really qualified to judge or know what goes through the minds of the rich. I do question how much is enougb for many of the world's billionaires but I can't believe that they are all evil. One thing si for certain, you can't take it with you when you die.
Mat 6:19-21 "Do not save riches for yourselves here on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and robbers break in and steal. Instead, save riches for yourselves in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and robbers cannot break in and steal. For your heart will always be where your riches are."
Abundance of wealth is not in my stars but I pray for enough to provide well for my family. GOD answers with just barely enough with little to no excess and for that, I am so thankful. So many have so much less. Yes, I pray for more to provide better for my little one but I have to be content with what I get.
Heb 13:5 (RSV) "Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have."
