John 14:25-26

“These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you."

GOD interacted with the Israelites throughout the Old Testament but even in the old books, HE made HIMSELF less and less physically visible as time wore on. After Moses and Joshua, HE really only spoke to the people through prophets and what the prophets spoke came to be.

Then our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ came to earth and suffered for all sin of all. While He was here, He performed many miracles that people saw with their owen eyes. He brought the good news about the Kingdom of GOD while performing many works. He healed the sick, walked on water, changed water to wine, raised the dead, calmed storms and transfigured, Finally He, Himself was resurrected and ascended into heaven.

Since then, there really hasn't been anything remotely comparable to the acts of GOD in the Old Testament or the miracles performed by HIS Son. Why? you may ask. The reason is, GOD appearing to the ancients was due to HIM trying to get the Israelites to repent so HE could reconcile with mankind but they wouldn't. So, GOD sent HIS only Son to bear the full weight of our sin and while He was here, He perfomed miracles and taught us the way to reconcile with our MAKER. Once this was done, there was no further need for GOD to keep trying to knock sense into us.

This doesn't mean that GOD's interraction has ended. Now He sends the Holy Spirit as a helper to teach us the way. When we feel empty and turn to GOD or feel the urge to know and believe in Jesus, this is the Holy Spirit showing us the way. No, its not the Red Sea parting but it is actually far more personal and moving if we recieve the calling of the Helper. All we have to do is knock and the door shall be open.
