Romans 5:6-10

(6) For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. (7) For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. (8) But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (9) Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. (10) For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Paul sums up the process of salvation very clearly here. He distinctly mentions the two necessities required for true salvation, which are justification and sanctification. Although they are part of the same outcome, they are quite different. In Romans 5:6-9, Paul tells us of how our salvation is justified through the blood of Christ. He makes the point that some will die for the righteous or the good man but Jesus died for all men, good or bad. It;s the ultimate demonstration of GOD's love for us and HIS desire to save us all and bring us to HIM. By way of this incredible sacrifice, our salvation is justified. As enemies of GOD through our sinful ways, we have been justified to reconclie with HIM through the death of Jesus.

Then Paul says,"...Having been reconclied, we shall be saved through HIS life." With our salvation being justified by His death, our process of salvation continues through His life. After Jesus dies on the cross, He then was resurrected and now lives and through His life, we are required to be sanctified. This means to practice His teachings and to lead a righteous, Christian life. Of course we will succumb to sin at times but with our best efforts, we must resist temptation. We must instill Christ's values in our hearts such as charity, foregiveness, humility, honesty, love and kindness. The more we can practice these values, the more we are sanctified through Jesus and the more complete our salvation becomes.

John 14:18: "I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you." This tells us that Jesus is with us to constantly aid us in our quest for sanctification. We don't have to do it alone. Jesus goes on to say, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him" (verse 23). When the process of justification and sanctification are complete, then GOD will make HIS home with us.
