“But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.” Psalm 5:11

I can remember one day in particular when I was in my early twenties, where I was driving down Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles on a Friday late afternoon. The sun was setting and the weather was perfect. I had just finished work in my new job and it was payday. The weekend was just kicking off and I remeber an incredible feeling of happiness and joy. Everything semmed right. The memory of that one brief moment of contentment will stay with me forever. Unfortunately, that joy most likely deteriorated into a three day bing but for the briefest of moments, the world was right.

In reptrospect, I asked myself, what made that moment so good? I think it was a combination of the nice weather, security in my job with money in my pocket and the excitement of looking forward to what wondeful possibilities the weekend held for me in the bustling city of angels. It was a tiny moment in time where things aligned and I knew I was in store for a good time. I don't remeber what else happened after that but that moment was beautiful...but it was false.

Our lives are filled with such moments that are of this world and they may feel good but they are fleeting. If only we could feel that way all the time. News flash! We can! Like Psalms 5:11 tells us, we can take refuge in GOD and all the things that made me feel elated can be prolonged...forever. The city of angels becomes a true City Of Angels, which is heaven, where the weather is always perfect, the security is knowing that my life is controlled by the steadfast love of GOD and I have all eternity to look forward to of feeling that joy. It;s hard to relive the joys of youth but with GOD and Jesus, we are reborn into a new youth. If you've ever wished you knew then what you know now, rebirth in Christ gives you that opportunity.
