God is merciful. (Deuteronomy 4:31; Psalm 103:8-17; Daniel 9:9; Hebrews 2:17)

GOD sent Jesus to die for our sins. We, in no way, deserve such a grand and merciful act. This alone abundantly displays GOD's infinite mercy. Since GOD and Jesus are one, basically GOD came to earth to suffer earthly agony so that HE paid our debt to HIMSELF, thus allowing HIMSELF to accept us in heaven. There can never be another more selfless and merciful action than this greatest of great deeds.  HIS mercy through sacrifice has now allowed HIM to show us HIS grace.

Throughout the Bible, GOD shows mercy on a rebelious Israel. Every time HE established them in the promised land, they would forsake HIM and turn to other false gods. Only when HE chastised them would they return to HIM and when they did, HE showed mercy by accepting them back, time after time. GOD is infinite, immutable and HIS very essence is good so naturally HE shows infinite and unchanging mercy and there's no better display of this than salvation through HIS sacrificing of HIMSELF through Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 2:7-9 says, "And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
