Daniel 9:24-27

(24) " Seventy weeks are determined for your people and for your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sins, to make reconciliation for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy. (25) " Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; the street shall be built again, and the wall,
Even in troublesome times. (26) " And after the sixty-two weeks, the Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; and the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, and till the end of the war desolations are determined. (27) Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate."

Daniel's "70 Weeks" prophecy is a difficult one to decipher but it is one of the most important prophecies in the Bible. Many argue that it is the foretelling of the end of times, while others, like myself, believe that it is the prophecy of Jesus' first coming, although I have to admit, I am still pondering whether it is an amalgamation of both the first and second coming. The reasons why I believe it refers to the first coming are simple. First of all, 70 weeks is exactly three and a half years, which is the exact time frame of Jesus' ministry. In verse 27, Daniel refers to a one week period where Jesus will confirm the new covenant and put an end to sacrifice and offering. By shedding His blood, Jesus did exactly that. The blood of animals is no longer required for our reconciliation after Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice, His death. Daniel says this will happen in the middle of the week. Jesus died on a Wednesday.

The Bible is GOD's words spoken sometimes directly from HIM and often through the mouths of HIS chosen prophets. GOD's word is not meant to be simple and easy to understand but require thought and meditation so that those with eyes will see and those with ears will hear. Whether the "70 Weeks" prophecy foretells of the end of days or not, that time is known by GOD and GOD only.
