1 Corinthians 12:7
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
The gift of a discerning spirit is not given to us to make us above any of our brothers and sisters nor is it granted to us to allow us to be judgemental. A discrening spirit gives us the ability to know the difference between right and wrong, good and bad. With this ability we are able to make good decisions that not only effect the way we conduct our lives but lso how we influence our surroundings. In fact, every gift bestowed on us by GOD is not to promote spiritual individuality but to enable us to better intertwine with the Body of Christ as a whole. Some may seem to possess gifts that are deemed more valuable than others but that is not the case. A loose example is someone who is good with numbers may be able to amass money but without the bank teller, lumberjack, paper mill worker, etc., He has no money to amass. I know, not a great example but you get the picture.
The point is, GOD grants us these gifts in order to help us coexist as a society. 1 Corinthians 12:11 tells us,
"But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills."
