Genesis 3:1-4

Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die.

Satan has many weapons in his arsenal. There's lust, greed, hate, anger, deceit and so on but his most effective tool is doubt. Way back in the beginning, GOD gives Adam and Eve one simple command with a simple and direct warning of the punishment for disobeying it, which is death. Adam and Eve had perhaps hundreds, thousands or even millions (who knows?) of fruit bearing trees in paradise and all they had to do was to stay away from one.

Along comes the serpent and by contradicting GOD by sayong , "Ye shall not surely die.", he plants the seed of doubt in Eve's mind. From that seed sprang forth disobedience and we all know the result of what happens next.

Adam and Eve had it easy and they broke GOD's one command. These days we have a much tougher task to hang on to our faith but unlike our early ancestors, we are not as naive. We have GOD's Word through the Bible to guide us, so even though the temptations and reasons to doubt may be stronger, there is no excuse to lose our faith through doubt and to challenge GOD.
