Romans 15

We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.”

Its no secret that we live in a world that has decended into the depths of greed and selfishness. So many horde what they don't need, while so many covet what they don't have. Human nature is basically greedy at the core. Sure, we do small acts of kindness here and there and they make us feel good but is that right?

Even Christians who donate to charity and give time to help the needy, may be guilty of doing so to satisfy their Chru=istian conscience. We give what excess we have but do we ever give what we truly need ourselves? Jesus, when seeing a poor widow donate two small copper coins in the temple, says to the disciples,  [3] "I tell you the truth," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. [4] All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on." (Luke 21:3-4).

Its not how much we do for others but how much we give of ourselves. It has to come from the heart for GOD's sake and not as feel good acts. True caring from the heart makes GOD take notice.
