James 1:5-8

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, lwho gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

 

As Christians, we know that our prayers should include asking GOD to help us do HIS will. This doesn't mean that we should not ask HIM for blessings for ourselves and those we love. GOD is not some power hungry tyrrant who only wants worship. In fact, HE doesn't need our praise at all and HE is all-powerful so there is no power HE can crave.

 

GOD wants us to have faith as through faith, we are pruified of the trappings of this world. With faith in the eternal, which is unseen, the desire for the perishable becomes less important. If we pray for prosperity so that we can exalt ourselves over others, then the prayer is of this world and most likely will be ignored. If we pray for prosperity to help the unfortunate, then, if prayed with doubtless faith, GOD will hear it. When we pray for GOD to help us do HIS will, we are actually praying for our own benefit for GOD's will is for us to do whats best for us.
