"But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ." 2 Corinthians 11:3.

Over the past two millennium we have built the church around a glorified version of Christ, with much grandeur perhaps seeking to rebuild Solomon's temple and even though I agree, we must do what we feel is right to glorify GOD, maybe we are missing the mark at times. In one of the Indiana Jones movies, the hero is forced to choose the cup that Christ drank from amongst many splendid chalices of gold and silver adorned with precious stones. Jesus was the king of kings so naturally we would think that His cup would have been a work of art fit for a king. In the movie, Jones wisely chooses a simple cup made of clay stating that this would be the cup of a carpenter.

In our attempts to glorify GOD, we forget the simplicity of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. He was not a person of high places but was, in fact, the opposite. Jesus was the epitome of humility. He came to teach us the true merit of being humble. We, as humans, have a natural tendency to over complicate things. Most conflicts in the world today that result in mass death and destruction can be traced back to simple conflict. The issues of waring nations may seem more complex than a simple argument between neighbors but at the root, they are essentially the same. Conflicts between massive states are just individual conflicts multiplied by the population and can not be resolved by changing the other. To resolve a mass conflict, each individual has to start by examining themselves.

The serpent is forever at work trying to multiply our conflicts and escalate them into massive destruction. We have to step back and remember the simplicity of Christ and I know in my heart that if we do, all conflicts will disappear.
