Hosea 4:11-12

(11) to prostitution, to old wine and new, which take away the understanding (12) of my people. They consult a wooden idol and are answered by a stick of wood. A spirit of prostitution leads them astray; they are unfaithful to their God. 

In Hosea'a time, Israel was a prosperous and powerful nation but had become morally drunken. They ignored the law and statutes set forth by GOD and turned to wooden idols. As a whole they became a society rotten to the core and the people literally were drunkards as Amos reports that they drank wine by the bowlful.

This is why GOD gave us the Bible, so we can learn from our ancestor's mistakes. As Israel plunged into moral decline, Hosea warns them of the impending doom they will face due to their turning their backs on GOD. Shortly after, Israel fell to the Assyrians and were killed or exiled to far off places as slaves.

Israel back then was similar to how far our society today has fallen into the moral abyss. Immorality is running rampant and as evil takes hold of us, we begin to believe that we are in control. Atheism is on the rise where people are cinvinced that GOD doesn't exist and that they are in complete control of their lives. Present actions have become the order of the day with no thought dedicated to spirituality and accountability for our wrong doings. In case nobody is noticing, the Western world is colapsing. The US is being invaded by foreign powers but everone is so caught up themselves, they seem not to notice. If we, as a nation, turn back to GOD, HE would definitley reunite us...but I fear it is too late.
