Ecclesiastes 1:9-10
(9) 'What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. (10) Is there anything of which one can say, "Look! This is something new"?'
Solomon must have been bored when he wrote this. He suggests that time is cyclicle and we are all stuck on a revolving wheel like hamsters running on a wheel to nowhere. I imagine atheists perceive time as a cycle where we are born, live and die and our daily lives within our time cycle is filled with repetition. If this truly were the case, then life would be pretty pointless and any attempts to live a righteous lifestyle would be equally useless.
For us Christians, time is linear where there was a biginning and there will definitely be an end, not just to our own lives, which we already accept but to all time itself. We live on GOD's timeline, where our every action is with a purpose. We seek to live a righteous lifestyle so that we may please HIM.
Within GOD's timeline, there are cycles such as the sun rising and setting and season coming and going only to repeat in there timeframe but there is an overall direction in which we are moving and that is towards the final act in GOD's magnificent play. The final act is where we will admitted into a world where there will be no more such thing as time, only love and joy. We have only a short time to audition for GOD's final act, so make the most of it.
