God is love. (John 3:16; Romans 5:8; 1 John 4:8)

GOD's love for us is truly unmeasurable. There are cases of couples who meet and fall in love, get married and stay married and in love for fifty or more years. Although rare, these marriages have happened. Imagine the bond that they establish over such a long period of time. The feelings they have for each other, as strong as they may be, are nothing compared to the love GOD has for us.

John 17:23 gives us an example of that love,  "I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me."

Jesus and GOD have been together for eternity as two thirds of the Holy Trinity. They have been in harmony forever and must have a bond beyond all comprehension. When we think of the bond between a couple who have been married for five decades plus, it makes us smile to imagine two people so in love. Now take that love and multiply it by infinity and you just begin to scratch the surface of the love that must exist with GOD and HIS Son, Jesus.

In John 17:23, Jesus is asking GOD to show us that HE loves us just as much HE loves Jesus. That immeasurable and timeless love is what GOD feels for us as well. Jesus also has that love for us. Unlike an older sibling, there is no jealousy for He asks the FATHER to show us that HE loves us just as much as the first born son. The true definition of this love is really beyond our comprehension so we must use faith to believe in such a love.
