Matthew 5:7

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

It seems that our generation has forgotten about the importance of mercy. In fact, its a popular battle cry to "show no mercy" when embarking on any venture, be it in actual battle, in business or friendly competition.

A poor single mother, who has lost her job and has two small children to feed, goes into a supermarket and out of desperation, shoplifts some food items. She feels so guilty that she returns to the store and confesses her misdeed to the store manager, whi then calls the police and seeks to prosecute her to the fullest extent of the law. The woman had committed a sin by stealing but repented and confessed her crime. The cruelness of the store manager still wanted to punish her. He had no mercy, no forgiveness in his heart.

We all sin regardless of how righteous we think we are. Sin is inescapable but when we repent through confession and pennance, GOD forgives us. Our mission in life, as Christians, is to do our best to live our lives seeking to know and be more like GOD and Jesus' character. GOD is all merciful so shouldn't we be merciful to each other?
