John 5:19-20

So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel."

 

When we think of ourselves and self reliant, we reject that GOD has granted us our positions. If one finds themself in a position of wealth and power, they may say that they are "self-made". The fact is, even though they may have worked hard or had great luck in getting there, it was GOD who gave them the drive, intelligence, good fortune or whatever to get there.

 

Jesus was granted authority over all mankind and in fact over the entire universe but He only did what His FATHER willed. He knew what He was about to have to endure and His human side was afraid of the suffering as we learn in John 22:42 when Jesus prays to GOD and says, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."

 

Notive He does ask GOD to take the cup from Him but rather to do GOD's will. GOD's will was for His only Son to suffer the anguish Jesus went through so we, HID other children could be saved. Knowing this, we need to do our parts to fulfill the will of our FATHER for it is HIS will that gives us our position.
