Isaiah 40:6-8
6 A voice says, “Cry out.”
And I said, “What shall I cry?”
“All people are like grass,
and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.
7 The grass withers and the flowers fall,
because the breath of the Lord blows on them.
    Surely the people are grass.
8 The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.”

Isaiah makes a statement declaring that GOD's word stands forever, while acknowledging that mankind is just a short blip on the eternal spectrum. This verse is not meant to instill a feeling of futility in our minuscule and mundane lives but more to reassure us that we have a GOD that whose promises are steadfast and unwavering should we do our best to keep HIS ways. The point of the passage is not to remind us that our lives are insignificant and temporary but in contrast it intends to remind us that we have a supreme power that is righteous to the end.

When GOD makes a promise, it stands for all eternity. Even though HE has had many reasons to justifiably release HIMSELF of HIS covenants with man, HE continues to redraw the line in the sand to our benefit so that HE can keep HIS covenants, no matter how far we push HIM. The ultimate promise came from Jesus Christ who absorbed all our sins and gave us escape route through Him for all past, present and future sins.

For me, this is extremely comforting to know. Not because I want sin. In fact, the more I submerse myself into Christ, the more sin is becoming abhorrent to me but I will continue to sin as it is the lot of mankind but I know that I have a GOD who has promised me forgiveness and HIS promises stand...forever.
