Exodus 16:23

Then he said to them, "This is what the LORD has said: "Tomorrowis a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. Bake what you will baketoday, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning."

The Sabbath Day established by GOD at the very creation of things seems to have lost it's importance as time has gone by. David violated the law when he and his men ate the bread of the presence on the Sabbath and Jesus and the apostles did the same when they plucked grain. Jesus, the son of GOD most important person and holy person to ever live and David, GOD's favored one both directly disobeyed the law so why was it OK for them?

The pharisees and saducees misinterpreted the law in the first place, I believe. The Sabbath day established by GOD was never meant to be a day of abstinence and suffering. It was meant to be a day of rest and enjoyment. The Isaelites were forced inot labor for four hundred years under the yoke of Egypt. When they were delivered, GOD reiterated the importance of the Sabbath, not for HIS sake but for the sake of the jews. They needed rest. The Sabbath day law is not a trial but a reward. Jesus said it best in Mark 2:27-28 when challenged by the pharisees when they plucked grain.

27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

If we have to break the sabbath out of necessity, its OK but if given the chance, relax and enjoy the LORD's day of rest.
